![]() then I realized it'd be cool to do a complex. ![]() :) Then, of course, I realized I could try and put together the support structure for the crystal fabs (the food coupled with my existing silicon mine, at least). then I realized, that what I really should do is build a crystal fab first, then use the crystals to run my own plant. Of course, with that yield, it chews through energy cells - which made me think again about building my own plant. Well, ended up pressing the mining ship into service as an energy cell transport - found a 90 yield ore asteroid that I couldn't pass up, so dropped a mine there and had my extra ships go towards tending it. Was thinking something simple - maybe a solar power plant to build energy cells, as I seem to be continually searching them out for cheap - but I've read that energy cell factories aren't really that profitable. Do automated wingman work out, if I take a couple of fighters with me in my own little wing, or should I just go it alone? I could just stick with trading and work on building a complex - but not sure I have the patience to tackle that yet. I've got a couple of fighters stashed away - was going to go hunt bad guys (as soon as I figure out who I want to be the bad guys, that is!) but not sure the best way to go about it. Nothing seems to be really jumping out at me as far as next steps now that I've got some seed capital. I also wonder where I should go from here. so, my question is - is it still like this? (Most of the posts on automated mining were 5 to 10 years old.) Is there a way today to set up an automated miner - and, I should add, I don't really want to add modded scripts, if I can help it. ![]() I'm already babysitting several trade routes I don't really want to babysit a miner, too. Now, I've done some limited google searching, and it seems to say no - that while you can tell a ship to automatically mine, it won't actually use the mining drill to break rocks up, it'll just scoop up any available pebbles and then be done. I had originally outfitted a ship for mining manually, thinking I'd do some early to get some seed cash when I was just starting out, but I abandoned it as a) way too slow, and b) way too finicky (especially to a guy just relearning the comtrols!) I'm curious, though, now that I can afford better AI programs for my ships if there's a viable way to create an automated miner. (that's where about 75% of my fleet was acquired, actually.) The last addition was a Demeter miner, and I'm somewhat intrigued. One of the things I'd looked for is the opportunity to buy damaged NPC ships and fix them up wither to sell (mostly) or to occasionally use myself, if they fit in well. Anyway, I've got a foothold now, with a small fleet of trading ships (a couple of sector/universe traders, a couple of ships on manual trade routes, and a couple servicing my silicon mine) and a couple million credits in the bank. Finally dove back into the X universe - I had some familiarity with one of the earlier versions, so it wasn't a complete unknown, but took a bit to get back into things.
